  2. Trackstar press release: Saturday’s meeting is the last before the cut-off for qualification for the end-of-season Shootout for the prestigious silver roof. As such, most of the big names will be in action, headed by this season’s dominator, British Champion 515 Frankie Wainman Jr, who has won two of three finals at Lynn this year. Local superstar 16 Mat Newson will be looking to uphold home honour and make some inroads in the points, particularly the King’s Lynn track championship, which he won last year. Runner-up in the final at the end of May, he will need some big points hauls if he is to have any chance of catching Wainman. New European Champion 4 Dan Johnson is also the current holder of the silver roof so may be looking to demonstrate his 2016 form before this season’s Shootout gets underway. Runner-up in last weekend’s European at Northampton was 445 Nigel Green who was a heat winner last time out at King’s Lynn and looks set qualify for his first Shootout this year. Has he turned the corner after a recent tricky spell, and does he have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for the silver roof. Comfortably in the top six of the points at present, 212 Danny Wainman is another who would love to make the breakthrough of becoming a genuine contender. Further down the table, 150 Mick Sworder should clinch his place in the series this weekend, as he currently occupies tenth spot. One of the sport’s most spectacular drivers, he is chasing his first win at Saddlebow Road in 2016. With 464 Luke Davidson unlikely to race, and 220 Will Hunter not booked to race at present, it opens the door for others to sneak into the top 12 at the last moment. Hoping to take advantage will be 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr. Also in the field this weekend will be multiple World Champion 53 John Lund, rising star 422 Ben Riley and King’s Lynn specialist 335 Mark Woodhull. 224 Mark Gray has been banging in the wins on tarmac in his Tom Harris car recently – can he translate anything like that kind of form onto the loose? Among the remaining runners are lower grade veterans 215 Geoff Nickolls, 280 Colin Nairn and 307 Tim Warwick who are all very popular among sections of the crowd. At the other end of the scale, 76 Aaron Cozens is always a strong performer on his local track, while 127 Austin Moore will look to continue his good progress since graduating from Ministox. There are currently 45 F1 Stock Cars, 33 V8 Stock Car and 44 1300cc Stock Cars booked in to race. Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.
  3. When he's raced on shale before it's been in the same car he races on tarmac. I think he's only ever had one or two cars in total. Not sure if it's been the same car with two different paint jobs, or two different cars, but they've always been tarmac cars.
  4. 300 has raced shale before, in his own car, so I think he'll be there. Roger said here that he'd race whichever semi he got. Presumably in one of Ryan's cars. There's quite a few tarmac-only drivers on the grid.
  5. Henry Hunter has not raced for a while, and on another thread it was suggested that he had lost interest in racing, so quite possibly he's one that has withdrawn.

  7. That should be Joe Booth, shouldn't it? And I almost put John Speed instead of Bradley...
  8. This is the last meeting that will count towards qualification for the Shoot Out. The top 12 in the National Points after this meeting are in the Shoot Out. Currently in 12th place is Luke Davidson, who doesn't race on shale. A good meeting for those just below him - 84 Tom Harris, 446 Steve Booth, 555 FWJJ, or 25 Bradley Harrison - could see them move past Luke and into the Shoot Out.
  9. F1s plus V8 Hot Stox and 1300cc Saloons. Start time 5.30pm Advance tickets available here
  10. I can't see what the Coventry water bowser has got to do with the forthcoming semi-final meeting at Sheffield? It's 2 weeks today. First race 12.30pm. F1 plus the V8s. Watering strategy TBA.
  11. As in Carnforth/F2 Dean Mason ,The Lancaster Bomber ?Yes, it's definitely him. That's Dean in the background, in the orange and black overalls. Pic from Daniel S via Twitter.

  14. F2s are already on the night before at Stoke, and their Sheffield date will be rearranged for later in the year, possibly September. I think the fact that there are considerably more F1s and V8s expected than when the fixture list was put together has got to be a positive sign for both formulae. The 2 formula meeting in April was very well received on here, with a lot of people commenting positively about the quick turn around, which might also have been a factor in the decision to move the F2s.
  15. Saturday Gates open 10.30am. Paid practice 1pm - 3.30pm Meeting starts 4.45pm Sunday Meeting starts 12 noon. Presumably there will be pre-meeting practice both days as normal. The official booking list from the BSCDA lists 47 cars, but I think the Dutch drivers book in directly with the promoter, not the BSCDA?
  16. The Startrax publicity machine has kicked into life... Just 3 weeks to go to the first of the big 3 World Series deciders and the business end of the World Championship deciders! It comes no tougher than Owlerton's first decider! 24 starters and just 10 will make it through to the big grid at Coventry Stadium the first Saturday in September! This hurdle has a penchant for sometimes being 'predictable' however, the first three rows of the grid offer 6 of BriSCA's finest talent and most explosive drivers, none I would politely suggest would be out for a Sunday drive and respectable position! Being on the front row of that World Final grid is the ultimate objective. Wainman took the safer option in terms of survival in electing Semi Final 2 propelling Matt Newson, Dan Johnson, Mick Sworder, Rob Speak, Craig Finnikin and Stuart Smith Junior to the fast, flat out and tight and technical Sheffield shale way the scene of so many dramatic big races over the decades! A full format BriSCA F1 event is complimented by the full on action of the resurgent V8 Stock Cars providing an awesome 10 race spectacle of Sunday afternoon Thunder. The stadium affords amongst the finest facilities in UK oval entertainment, race view bars, panoramic race view restaurant, covered atmospheric terracing where the rumble of V8 engines resonates. Excellent fast food outlets and a family friendly environment guarantees a big day out! RESTAURANT RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE MADE DIRECTLY WITH OWLERTON STADIUM on 0114 234 3074 - This is beginning to fill up so don't delay - it is likely to be booked up on the day Provisional Schedule of events: 12.30pm Heat 1 V8 Stock Cars 12.50pm Heat 1 BriSCA F1 Stock Cars 1.10pm Heat 2 V8 Stock Cars 1.35pm Heat 2 BriSCA F1 Stock Cars Championship of the World 1st Semi Final 2.25pm Heat 3 V8 Stock Cars 2.45pm BriSCA F1 Consolation 3.10pm V8 Stock Car Grand Final 3.35pm BriSCA F1 Grand Final 4.00pm V8 Stock Cars GN 4.15pm BriSCA F1 GN Gates Open 11am Prices Adults £22 Concessions £18 Child 5 - 14 £8 Under 5s Free Family Ticket 2 Adults + up to 3 children £50
  17. As I understand it, our boys' cars would be fine to race in Holland as they are... but they do change the brakes/shockers/etc to be competitive against the Dutch cars. A few years back there was some mention of some cars being just over the noise limits at Venray, which meant new silencers for some. The rules between BriSCA and Holland used to be pretty close, and hence Dutch spec cars could race over here without too much bother, but the recent changes to UK rules regarding tyres and control shockers, although being a good move for UK racing, have unfortunately worked against us regards the Dutch coming over.
  18. Tarmac racing in Holland appears to have been on the decline the last few years, as the dirt/shale/field tracks have got more popular. There's also a massive meeting at Texel in Holland this weekend. Over 80 F1s booked the last time I looked, including four Brits!
  19. Important info for anyone camping:- The field gates open at 1pm tomorrow, and you must leave by Monday midday.
  20. 22. As in Carnforth/F2 Dean Mason ,The Lancaster Bomber ?According to his licence, 358 is from Lancaster, so it looks like it's the same guy.
  23. It's usually a standard meeting i.e. Two heats, Consolation, Final, GN.
