  1. I think King's Lynn / Swaffham and Skegness / Boston are closer. Same days but not at the same time.
  2. Wednesday 6th October 1954 Perry Barr Stadium in Birmingham has a colourful past. Built as an athletics ground in 1927, it has been host to speedway, cycling, horse jumping, Aston Villa FC's training ground, and during World War 2 it was a POW camp. It also hosted 7 stock car meetings; this one being won by 6 Lionel Watling. Thursday 6th October 1955 The records show a meeting at Aldershot on this day, but no results are known. Sunday 6th October 1957 Lydden Hill was won by pioneer driver 73 Vic Ferriday, who raced from the very beginning of the sport, and in an 11 year career he won 20 Finals plus a World Semi-Final in 1962. Tuesday 6th October 1959 His final win at Southampton was the beginning of a hat-trick for 38 Fred Mitchell. He went on to win at Oxford on Thursday and Staines on Friday. Thursday 6th October 1960 Heat and Final wins at Aldershot for 25 Pat Willis from Eton. His racing career spanned 18 years and he won 18 finals. Saturday 6th October 1962 Ken Freeman was a pioneering car builder in the very early days of the sport, and cars being put together in the late 1990s still showed signs of his influence. But aside from being an innovative engineer, he was also an accomplished driver, and this final at Coventry was just one of the 43 he won, making him the 30th all-time highest final winner. At Belle Vue the same night, Alan Wardropper won the main event. Sunday 6th October 1968 Heat and Final at Northampton for 375 George Ansell. He was known as The King Of Tar, and the vast majority of his 54 Finals came on the hard tracks. Saturday 6th October 1973 A heat win at Coventry for 295 James Thompson, his second race win. His only other came a month earlier, also at Coventry. Taking the Final, and with it the recently introduced Grand National Championship title, was 391 Stu Smith. At White City the same night, 119 Brian Wallace won the main event while the Novice Of The Year title went to 208 Martin "Hoss" Fernihough, whose company MHF Truck & Plant Hire is still on some stock cars to this day. Sunday 6th October 1974 Probably the best points score in his career, 348 Tony Allen won heat and final at Northampton, and then finished third in the GN. Saturday 6th October 1979 It is almost staggering to think it nowadays, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the sport was so big that there were enough drivers and fans to be able to run two meetings under 100 miles apart on a Saturday night. That said, there were only a few formulae to go and watch or compete in, compared to the 50+ that there are today. On home ground at Rochdale, 396 Doug Cronshaw placed 5th in his heat before winning the final and then coming through for fourth in the Grand National. Meanwhile, 391 Stu Smith did slightly better after by-passing his local track and travelling to Coventry, where he recorded a heat third, final win, and second in the GN. Saturday 6th October 1984 The second half of the 1984 season saw 100 Harry Smith in top form. Between the beginning of August and the end of the season, he won 10 Finals, including this one at Coventry. Sunday 6th October 1985 Five winners from seven races at Skegness, starting with a White/Yellow Top Race won by 97 Murray Harrison. The Grand National Championship was next, won by 212 Frankie Wainman, who also won Heat 1. Heat 2 was 433 John Thorpe, 190 Len Wolfenden won the Consolation and Helter Skelter, with 304 Dave Mellor winning the Final. This was Big Dave's penultimate main event victory; his 47th and final came at Coventry in June 1989. Saturday 6th October 1990 Now at the very peak of his career, 53 John Lund took the final at Coventry. This was the first of 5 finals for Lund in October 1990. Sunday 6th October 1991 Heat, Final, and 4th in the GN from the handicap at Northampton for 422 Nigel Whorton in the legendary Clive Lintern built "Red Arrow 9" car. Five years later, it was bought by a guy that raced it only 4 times and then dumped it at the bottom of his garden, where it remained for the next 23 years. It has recently been restored by the Lee Fairhurst team, and looks stunning. Sunday 6th October 1996 The second ever F1 meeting at Wimbledon saw 515 Frankie Wainman take a clean sweep of both heats and final. Saturday 6th October 2001 The first of two back-to-back Coventry finals for 21 Mark Gilbank. Eight of Mark's 25 final wins were at Coventry. Sunday 6th October 2002 The heats at Belle Vue were won by 515 Frankie Wainman and 391 Andy Smith, and 180 Ray Witts the Consolation, but come the final, these three battled with each other plus a few more besides, and 383 Dave Johnson got away to take the win. This was his 20th and last final win; the first came at Bradford in June 1989. Saturday 6th October 2007 Victory in Heat 1 at Coventry for 515 Frankie Wainman was the only win of the night for the superstar drivers. The other heats went to 291 Dan Squire and 322 James Neachell, with 35 Neil Shenton winning the Consolation. The final was the fourth, and to date, last, main event for 152 Neil Scothern, and 21 Mark Gilbank won the Grand National. Saturday 6th October 2012 The Trust Fund was staged at Coventry, and in a change from the usual format, the trophy went to the highest placed red top in the final. That was race winner 4 Dan Johnson. Dan won Novice Of The Year in 2006, and has since gone on to win the National Points, European (twice), UK Open, World Of Shale, and Gold Cup titles, plus 24 meeting finals. Sunday 6th October 2013 Day two of a big Coventry weekender and 259 Paul Hines raced to a heat and final double. While the Saturday night had attracted a big turnout of cars and fans, the Sunday afternoon session had considerably fewer punters on the terraces. Sunday 6th October 2019 It should have been Round 3 of the Shoot Out at Sheffield, but after weeks of heavy rain the back straight was under water, and the meeting postponed for a couple of weeks. Had the programme been printed, this piece would have been in it.
  3. Go on, then. The 4 nominees are chosen by the previous winner, so have a think, and PM me with your names and reasons, and then we'll take it from there.
  4. Shall I do a few more this winter?
  5. There has been a serious accident as the track was being cleared after the Under 25 Championship. Until there is an official statement, can I ask that we refrain from commenting or speculating.
  6. In Bryan's interview from Austin's workshop earlier in the year, there was a chassis in the corner. I think it's that one but fitted with some panels from his older car. No idea of the history of it. http://forum.stoxnet.com/topic/32556-at-the-workshop-withaustin-moore/
  7. Big thanks to everyone involved the whole season.

  9. ALMOST HERE! The official BriSCA 2019 season comes to a climax in just over 24 hours time at Manchesters' Belle Vue - and the last official meeting of the calendar - It's also marks the end of a 21st Celebratory season for the Kirkmanshulme Lane venue. Sunday 10th November will also be somewhat nostalgic with the year long 'threat' of redevelopment of the stadium into housing. It has been a hard and complex and ongoing campaign with as yet no date confirmed for when the application will be determined. Whilst our season ends tomorrow, we will leave with concern over what will happen for the 2020 season. We will have to wait and see. However, as long as the stadium remains open 'it's business as usual 'as the Greyhound racing comes into it's peak period - no news leaves cause for some small degree of optimism but it is unlikely to be clarified for a few weeks. So Sunday 'may well' be the final roar of BriSCA in Manchester. This threat remains live and very real! Enjoy it while you can! As has been the story of 2019, weather has played a big part and thankfully this finale is scheduled at Belle Vue and not our sister track at Sheffield which has seen some dramatic flooding in recent days and most likely would have prejudiced the vent. However, here in the 'rainy' city, we have had the rain but not the floods and despite rain of biblical proportion during the week our track team have been working tirelessly to relay the track and as we enter the weekend the weather gods have been a little kinder in helping our team prepare a reasonable race surface for the lads to perform. And, tomorrow whilst chilly could not be better for the time of year, bright sunshine! F1 wise, it could not be tighter - double points, 5 drivers, one silver roof, expect a battle. Similar in BriSCA F2 at least two drivers will be battling it out with main contenders Luke Wrench and popular Lancashire character, Mickey Brennan. 49 BriSCA F1's are entered including - and fitting given the occasions, Lancashires' peoples Champion, Clitheroes John Lund and a 40 + entry of BriSCA F2 Stock Cars and a glittering array of names! Add to that National Ministox and their World of Shale Championship. It all adds up to an unmissable late afternoon of big BriSCA ACTION -We hope you join us 'one last time' SUNDAY 10th November - gates open 2.pm ALL ADMISSION SIMPLY PAY AT THE TURNSTILES
  10. JUST 48 HOURS TO GO TO THE LAST BLAST! UPDATED F1/F2 LIST Well what a week, we haven't simply had the time to do our customary regular updates, what with two biggies last weekend, a big Banger event the week before that and a double header at Stoke and the Sheffield - I certainly have writers cramp just doing programmes and this weeks is a limited edition 36 page biggie so make sure you get one! After a miserable week weather wise, almost daily rain since we last run last Sunday, working on the track has been hard! Our track man was in at first light and thought I would on this bright warm, blue sky morning speak with him and remind how fortunate we were at least not being at Sheffield with the river Don flooding which affects the track when it backs up! Andy was in high spirits, ironically the rain yesterday softened the heavy material - which we were going to remove today however he has made excellent progress with two thirds of the track already relaid and we had another 28 tonnes of limestone material delivered early morning. The team are working hard and there are no fears of issues for Sunday. It is anticipated that the track should be virtually complete tonight and will take some rain tomorrow with a decent sunday forecast - so, all systems go. BriSCA F1 as of last night remains a healthy 47, there has been ups and downs F2 wise with the total 49 - 7 and 1010 added as replacements and 'house full 28 NMSC - Very busy pit wise. We are expecting at least one more F1 - we will update when we get the 'final' list What's on offer quite literally should need 'NO HYPE' whatsoever - The race for Silver in BriSCA F1 cannot be no more melodramatic with so many of the top 5 who have a shout with double points on Sunday - one of most nail biting finales since it was incepted and I feel the closing races, i.e. Final and Grand National will be fierce as, in the heats, you have to be in it to win it and get placed - Come the last 2 races and the double points, well it's 'who' to choose! BriSCA F2 wise will it be Wrench, will it be Brennan, it's gonna be tight! Ironically the change in just who is in the 2019 silver roof has created a very different attitude with the Shoot Out lads travelling far and wide and if anything opened up what has to date been a superb competition and it call to be decided this Sunday, how much better can it get ? So - all systems go, judging by advance ticket sales this week, people are travelling far and wide, from London to Cornwall to Aberdeen, it's going to be a great and fitting finale - 21 years of BELLE VUE! Pit gate opens 12.30.pm Car Park Opens 1.pm Turnstiles from 2.pm Commander Crosby will perform our annual Rememberance Sunday make of respect at 3.pm backed by the Shoot Out drivers. We hopefully will post track pictures late today/AM - The team have worked tirelessly and a full 12 hour day today is planned to ensure conditions are as good as possible for the drivers. We aim to complete today as there is some rain tomorrow followed by a decent day Sunday. As of 10.am this morning there was NO water and we are busy moving the material around. Advance tickets with a £2 saving remain available today and in the morning for collection Sundayt - 01253 713754 BriSCA F1 ENTRIES Friday 8th [AM] NOVEMBER - 49 1 1 Tom Harris 2 5 Charlie Sworder 3 12 Michael Scriven 4 16 Mat Newson 5 20 Liam Gilbank 6 25 Bradley Harrison 7 24 Mark Adkins 8 34 Mal Brown 9 45 Nigel Harrhy 10 53 John Lund 11 55 Craig Finnikin 12 93 Sam Makim 13 94 John Dowson 14 101 Tristan Jackson 15 127 Austin Moore 16 136 Rob Jacklin 17 150 Mick Sworder 18 166 Bobby Griffin 19 175 Karl Hawkins 20 183 Steve Whittle 21 211 Phoebe Wainman 22 212 Danny Wainman 23 217 Lee Fairhurst 24 220 William Hunter 25 238 Richard Bryan 26 259 Paul Hines 27 268 Richard Woods 28 275 Terry Hawkins 29 276 Mark Poole 30 278 Paul Hopkins 31 313 Karl Roberts 32 326 Mark Sargent 33 342 Christopher Smith 34 345 Jake Harrhy 35 348 John Wright 36 415 Russell Cooper 37 424 Michael Heywood 38 443 Richard Dickerson 39 445 Nigel Green 40 446 Joe Booth 41 463 James Morris 42 483 Wayne Marshall 43 491 Paul Prest 44 502 Richard Wilson 45 515 Frankie Wainman 46 526 Finlay Sargent 47-555 Frankie Wainman Jnr Jnr 48 H410 Jelle Tesselaar 49 H880 Niels Tesselaar BELLE VUE 10/11 NO FURTHER BOOKINGS ACCEPTED - PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU HAVE TO CANCEL - 46 BOOKINGS CLOSED 7 Gordon Moodie 12 Daniel Ford 13 Andy Ford 24 Jon Palmer 34 Ben Woodhull 38 Dave Polley 53 Phillip Mann 55 Courtney Finnikin 59 Lee Dimmick 57 Scott Boddily 101 Kelvyn Marshall 124 Ollie Skeels 127 Matt Stoneman 130 Emma Ford 135 Shaun Taylor 142 Jonathan Hadfield 183 Charlie Guinchard 184 Aaron Vaight 188 Aaron Patch 210 Tristan Claydon 219 Chris Mitchell 235 Bradley Blyth 298 Jake Walker 322 Callum White 329 Mark Simpson 344 Luke Woodhull 464 Matt Linfield 477 Max Hertzog 488 Liam Bentham 524 Michael Walbank 560 Luke Wrench 578 Mark Gibbs 606 Andrew Palmer 608 Keith Minshull 618 Ben Lockwood 647 Chris Birgoyne 693 Martin Hinchcliffe 728 Carl Pilkington 735 Mick Haworth 788 Stephen Mallinson 801 Jack Cave 905 Rob Mitchell 908 Simon Pegg 968 Mickey Brennan 969 Bart Smeets 995 Michael Lund National Ministox - received / added Friday 8th - 28 BOOKINGS CLOSED 1 Lewis Evans 27 Luke Barsby 28 Josh Wilson 29 Grace Squire 51 Joelan Maynard 55 Lily Finnikin 64 Sam Critchley 67 Henry Robson 77 Tom Earl 84 Ryan Taylor 93 Ian Lewis 120 Finn Hunter Johnson 171 Thomas Dunne 180 Jack Witts 211 Tom Birchenough 223 Toby Partridge 233 Tilly Patrridge 246 Jenson Brickley 287 Amelia Wilkinson 290 Charlie Tomblin 291 Liam Waterfall 311 Jake Bointon 361 Lucy Shaw 381 Tyrone Evans 391 Rebecca Smith 443 Ella Dickerson 475 Leah Sealy 925 Jake Wilson

  13. Startrax press release THE MONDAY LIST FOR 10th NOVEMBER! WOW FACTOR!!! ADVANCE INFORMATION! PREVIEW TO FOLLOW - First the important early numbers! THE WAKE THAT WILL BE A CELEBRATION! Startrax invites you to come on down to BELLE VUE on the 10th November and 'Celebrate' 21 years of racing at Kirkmanshulme Lane - It sadly also is hugely likely to be the last ever BriSCA event in Manchester due to the impending planning application for development for housing which will be due for listing some time soon and despite all our valiant efforts, we have to be pragmatic and face reality albeit we would like to be able to have more 'last ever' tours than SIMPLY RED! On the back of the closure of Stoke on 2nd - we hope you will come on down as what's on is not insignificant, the double point F1 Shoot Out Final and F2 Shoot Out Final and National Ministox - We would love to let you in as well free but sadly unless I win the Euro lottery, we need to raise funding for projects next year and 2021! It may be the end of an era for BriSCA but let us make it a huge celebration and night of adrenalin and emotion and remember the good times and memories. We are planning that the stadium keeps the bar open a little longer Lets create an atmosphere. Further news will follow and Restaurant reservations and menu will be announced Monday - NOT to be missed 'End of an Era' Keep the faith as we will have some news to announce later in November if all comes together We were going to retire! But now the time doesn't seem right! More work to do as I too want a sport to enjoy and prosper in my retirement... 14. Startrax press release BELLE VUE Sunday 10th November A reminder anyone wishing to reserve tables for the Carvery in the restaurant should contact the stadium direct. For information, after 4 years of pegging the finale at £22, with some regret the price has gone up slightly for 2019 - The reasons is, since we took on the F2 Finale in 2017, the contribution on the day to the overall series pot added to the 5 figure contribution already made to the F1 pot - For 2 years, we absorbed those additional costs but with costs and rents increasing, regrettably it has necessitated a small increase which will be pegged in 2020/2021 The overall fund contribution from this meeting is a substantive five figure sum. The increase aligns it with the Semi Finals - but Sunday represents much better Value! We thought we would advise and justify the reasons for the modest increase. Reality, the price should have increased in 2017 to cover additional costs You can as always save £2 a ticket by ordering in advance - contact the office until 12 Noon Saturday 9th and pay by credit or debit card and save Telephone 01253 713754 Tue Friday 9.30 - 5.pm and Sat 9 - 12 noon Every little helps!
