  1. History sections added for Rochdale and Sheffield (thanks Giant) Another stat:- Most Finals Per Year Meeting reports from Staines 6th May 1955 and Sheffield 19th May 1955
  2. I've changed it. And I've merged all of the Wreckfest threads into this one, which will make it easier to find.
  3. Peter came out of retirement for the Xmas 2008 meeting at Belle Vue and borrowed Dan Johnson's car. Whether that was specifically so he could win his 100th final, I can't say, but he certainly drove like a man possessed, but ran out of laps before he could catch flying low grader James Potter.
  4. 10. http://www.stoxnet.com/since1954/most_finals.htm
  5. Is Wreakfest your own name for it, or is that a typo? The game itself is called Wreckfest. I've been pondering this for a couple of days - if it's a typo, I can edit the post title for you, but I don't want to change it if it's not wrong.
  6. Not quite Rod, you've missed a word out. I said "If The Chase has come to a premature end..." Looks like it hasn't come to a premature end, but the finale has been postponed.
  7. I think the main thing is that a large amount of cash has been raised for a good cause, which is a tremendous effort by Dave and Ben. I know it's only meant to be for fun, but when racing resumes next season, there will only be one driver whose roof isn't white, yellow, blue, or red, and that's a big deal. If The Chase has come to a premature end then the winner must be whoever was leading at the time? Are we in a "red and chequered" situation, or is it just waved yellows?
  8. Great stuff, big thanks to all. Just one question though..... what exactly was Sarg trying to win? As I understand it, all he'd have got for finishing as top of the points would be pole position for the title race. Or was there a prize for the top scorer?
  9. Yes. http://stoxnet.com/points/gr_points.htm
  10. Thanks Jane, and thank you and well done to Darrelle, you did a great job. And thanks for the summary, Taylor.
  11. Unofficial.... http://stoxnet.com/points/ Info I've got regards jokers includes 13 and 120, but they've already used their jokers.
  12. Pictures and biography of 436 Austin Wilkinson
  13. Tommy Barnes is a saloon driver. Son of Willie and grandson of the legendary Horry Is this a typo or a different person?
  14. I wrote that over a month ago so I can't remember about Harringay, other than it didn't seem very clear or interesting. As I remember it, the BriSCA Club was a supporters club with a monthly subscription, some or all of which went back into the sport in one way or another. I think they also organsied trips to Holland and the like.
  15. This would have been in the Sheffield programme today... Saturday 18th October 1969 The sport originated at New Cross Stadium in London, and after four sell-out meetings, promoter Digger Pugh moved to the much bigger Harringay Stadium, which ran most weekends for the rest of 1954, and the early part of 1955. The first ever World Championship was held at Harringay in June 1955, accompanied by the shock announcement that this would be the last meeting held there! The reasons are lost in history, but stock cars returned in 1960, and ran regularly for over a decade. This particular meeting saw Londoner 274 Dennis Driscoll win Consolation and Final. Coincidentally, another Londoner, 133 Terry Coell, won Consolation and Final at Coventry the same night. Sunday 18th October 1970 George Ansell was known as The King Of Tar, and the vast majority of his 54 Finals came on the hard tracks, including this one at Nothampton. His first Final was at a one-off meeting staged at Stevenage football ground. Heat 1 at Rochdale the same day was won by 23 Eddie Fish, with Stu Smith taking Heat and Final. Saturday 18th October 1975 Heat and Final wins, plus second in the Grand National from the handicap for 199 Mike Close at White City. Mike is one of only six drivers ever to have won all three major titles as well as over 100 meeting finals, and is widely regarded as one of the sport's all-time greatest drivers. At Leicester the same night, the opening heat went to World Champion 252 Dave Chisholm, who had to settle for third in the Final behind runner-up 34 Tony Leicester and winner 391 Stu Smith. Saturday 18th October 1980 Final winner at Leicester was 154 Brian Powles. Known as "The Push", he had been racing since 1970 and this was the 18th of his 29 final wins. A major event at Blackburn the same night was The Champion Of Champions, and taking a convincing win with a heat and final double was 190 Len Wolfenden. This was The Wild Wolf's 31st final victory in a career that began at Aycliffe in 1972. Len's 83rd and last final win was at Aycliffe, in October 1989. Sunday 18th October 1981 Heat 1 at Aycliffe was won by 92 George Braithwaite, fresh from his first ever final win at White City the week before. Not far behind him was 1 Stu Smith, who went on to take the final. Saturday 18th October 1986 Crewe Stadium is fondly remembered by everyone that ever went, and while it wasn't really a stadium at all, just a rough track with only very basic facilities, such as an "al-fresco" gents toilet, it produced some spectacular racing. 89 F1 meetings were held between 1982 and 1993, with this one being won by newly-crowned British Champion 422 Nigel Whorton. Sunday 18th October 1987 A Daily Mirror Grand Prix round at Northampton and all 7 races were won by champions. Heat 1 was won by new World Champion 53 John Lund, Heat 2 went to previous World Champion 33 Peter Falding, and Heat 3 was taken by 1979 World Champion 212 Frankie Wainman. Winner of the Consolation was 1984 European Champion 495 John Cayzer, and the main event was a victory for 1985 European Champion 203 Dan Clarke. The Mirror Masters Trophy and the Grand National were both won by 501 Chris Elwell, who had started the year becoming the first Brit to win the World 240ci Stock Car Championship in New Zealand. Sunday 18th October 1992 The late season Grand Prix Series was now sponsored by the BriSCA Club, and the Northampton round was dominated by two drivers. Heat 1, Heat 2, and the Grand National were won by 422 Nigel Whorton, with 33 Peter Falding winning Heat 3 and the Final. Saturday 18th October 1997 A firm favourite with fans of proper stock car racing, the rough and ready Stoke Stadium served up some proper action packed racing from the opening meeting in 1973 to the last one ever in 2019. This one was a round of the Grand Prix series, and taking the Final on his way to a fourth successive title was 515 Frankie Wainman. Sunday 18th October 1998 Final winner here at Sheffield 22 years ago was 446 Steve Booth. He won 6 in total, 3 of them at Sheffield. Saturday 18th October 2003 Northampton staged a nostalgia themed meeting, complete with retro 1950s style programme cover, but there was nothing retro about new boy 259 Paul Hines taking his first ever F1 final. Saturday 18th October 2008 In hindsight, these were the glory days of tarmac racing, with big car turnouts and plenty of action, such as this Birmingham meeting. Former F2 driver 463 James Morris was only a few months into his F1 career when he took his first final. Sunday 18th October 2009 The first year of the Shoot Out, and it kicked off in Round 6 at Northampton. A hard-hitting Final saw 515 Frankie Wainman emerge as the winner, surviving after a massive do-or-die last bend lunge by 390 Stu Smith. Saturday 18th October 2014 King's Lynn opened with a career first race win for 444 Paul-Jay Lemmons in the White/Yellow Top Race. PJ had looked a promising newcomer, but didn't he didn't race for long. The final went to 318 Rob Speak, his 19th F1 main event win, although of course he won many more in F2. Sunday 18th October 2015 Round 8 of the Shoot Out was at Northampton, with most of the points going to a driver that wasn't in it. Known to banger fans as Alge, 499 Dave Allen was a long time veteran of banger racing, but for a few years he raced F1 with a car prepared by the Murray Harrison team, and this was his best performance. Allen won Heat and Final, and then placed 11th in the GN from the handicap.

  21. Press release from Startrax CHASE SERIES 2020 - Sheffield It very much is with a heavy heart that due to changes in government advice twice in recent weeks, we have 'lost' our battle to re-open Sheffield in 2020. We originally obtained permission to operate on 4th October from the local authority with a restricted crowd of around 1000 inside and outside, whilst marginal viability wise 'we simply wanted to go racing' ! However mid September, that changed when the Prime Minister announced further restrictions including the suspension of experiments at Sports Grounds with the aim of returning crowds to Sports stadiums, due 1st October. The local authority then withdrew permission for the 4th, believing guidance for the 1st would be just too soon to interpret. Therefore, with the co-operation of colleagues, we acted swiftly to move the date back, which the council at the time accepted and with the stadium undertook considerable planning for zones, bubbles, stewarding, catering and bars which were submitted. However last week the PM introduced more restrictions and crowds returning to Sports stadiums was pushed back as you will see from media reports and football in particular. Therefore, we cannot run at present. It becomes quite complex to understand in the different regulations for different stadiums, defined as 'elite sports stadiums' and then actual licensing laws. The irony, we COULD have operated with a maximum of around 380 people BUT restricted to 'inside only' in bars and restaurant as this comes under different licensing laws/rules however that was 30% of what would be required to break even and 'unviable'. Like for many others, it has been a heart breaking season. In recent days, we have been looking at what could be resolved. We received support from colleague promoters and, therefore it has been a case of reviewing 'what is best for the sport' - Buster and the TSR team volunteered King's Lynn therefore we have decided in everyone's interest that we will host the season finale at KING'S LYNN on Sunday 8th November at 1.30.pm,. We then had a huge conflict as to what should the support be as, at Sheffield, it was due to be F2. However, we made the decision to put the NATIONAL MINISTOX British Championship as the support for BriSCA F1, not an easy one however being a championship and having no shale racing in 2020 since lockdown and our equal enthusiasm for the formula, we felt this the appropriate ;quality' support that BriSCA fans would appreciate. Three formula and pit space and restrictions on people numbers would not permit those thoughts. Thanks to colleague BriSCA promoters and BSCDA and thinking about our fans the Finale will go ahead on SUNDAY 8th NOVEMBER at 1.30.pm. We appreciate Buster's support as the stadium has a busy weekend and had to re arrange something else to accommodate us, for that we are grateful. So, it means Startrax go on tour for our third event of 2020, but please understand, we feel 'crushed' and 'dispirited' by the whole year, but you have to pick yourself up, dust down and try and do the right thing - We feel we have let us all down, which of course is just a feeling and it is the circumstances. We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment as there was a good buzz for Sheffield, however, with the BSCDA and our Chase fund raisers, we are going to start planning in the coming weeks working within the restrictions, the best show possible we can put on befitting a curtain closer for the most difficult season ever in our sports long history. We very much hope that race teams and fans will get behind us to bring the curtain down 'with some style'. Thank you. With regards the Sheffield on 18th October, that fixture WILL NOT be replaced, given a speed weekend the week prior on tarmac, we think it a step too far for drivers. We had been offered a venue however with seeking what credible 'support' we could run and possible available car numbers, we have integrity and want to guarantee, as best we can, a quality show and therefore fee it better for this date to be dropped and drivers to 'recover' So, for clarity - Sheffield 18th October CANCELLED - due to government restrictions Sheffield 8th November NOW TRANSFERRED to KING'S LYNN with a 1.30.pn start - AGAIN TICKET NUMBERS RESTRICTED, admission is strictly by advance ticket only and will be available from Tuesday 27th October via TSR website. Thank you for your patience and understanding, Grateful, Steve & Jackie.
