I can't think of any occasion in the past when someone has dropped out of the second semi before the first one has been run? It could well be that we've assumed that the reserves always go in the first semi first because that's what's always happened? Looks like Billy let it be known in advance that he wouldn't be able to take part in whichever semi he was in, so Neil Scothern, as first reserve, was immediately put in as his replacement.

202 is not listed, and as I think semi-finalists are automatically booked in, it looks like he won't be racing and another reserve will be required.

I meant where's the news about the change of the rules about the reserves going into the semis? i.e. how come 152 is at Buxton and not Sheffield?

That's been the case for as long as I can remember. Looks like the rules have been changed? Where?

After saving the day at Stoke when the electrics went, Karl is something of a hero in Startrax circles, which their press release made a big deal of. In any case, as I remember, it was Karl that broke the news on Twitter - maybe Startrax got it from there, and ran with it? It's the BSCDA that sort the grids out, the promoter isn't necessarily informed of any changes the instant they happen.

Possibly more than one driver has withdrawn from the semi, and both 152 and 313 have been called up as reserves?

From the Trackstar newsletter BIG TURNOUT FOR TRIPLE STOCK CAR THRILLER! A big turnout of cars will be in action at Saturday night's Stock Car thriller at the Adrian Flux Arena this Saturday night. Despite being in the middle of a busy part of the season for the F1 Stock Cars, all expectations have been exceeded with an incredible 48 cars booked in to race. Indeed despite there having been several big events for the F1 Stock Cars over the past month, only one meeting has had more F1 Stock Cars race than what we are expecting to see in action this Saturday. British Champion 515 Frankie Wainman heads Saturday night's F1 entry. Wainman has been the form driver of 2016 and has won two out of the three Lynn finals this year. 2 Paul Harrison - the man who stopped Frankie getting a history making Lynn treble will also be in action as is World Champion 515 Frankie Wainman, newly crowned European Champion 4 Dan Johnson and superstars 16 Matt Newson, 445 Nigel Green and 84 Tom Harris. Who will make the points cut? The F1 Stock Cars are racing in the final meeting for qualifying for the National Points Championship! Following Saturday night's meeting, the top 12 drivers in the points progress to fight it out over 10 rounds in the "Shootout" to determine who will be the 2016 National Points Champion. The current points situation around the cut off is below; 10th - 150 Mick Sworder - 320 11th - 220 Will Hunter - 294 12th - 464 L Davidson - 279 --------- 13th - 84 Tom Harris - 272 14th - 446 Joe Booth - 267 15th - 555 F Wainman - 264 16th - 25 B Harrison - 256 Sworder has qualified for the shoot out but the positions of both 220 Will Hunter and 464 Luke Davidson are looking precarious with Harris, Booth, Wainman and Harrison all booked in. Harris will be favourite to make it into the shootout at the expense of Davidson but if two drivers score well, Hunter will also be out and Booth, Wainman and Harrison will all be gunning for Harris to claim Davidson's place - and if they all play the self destruct game, Davidson may well still qualify despite not racing but that would now seem unlikely.

Startrax announcement: KARL ROBERTS 'Master electrician at Large' gains place on Sheffield World Semi stage. Following the withdrawal of predominately tarmac racer 186 Todd Jones Greater Manchester racer Karl Roberts slots in as a deserved first reserve. Karl saved the day with some electrical wizardry when the monsoon wiped out the floodlight's in March at Loomer Raod and enable the meeting to run. Karl had an excellent start to the season and from the back of the grid could still be in contention for a top 10 finish

Trackstar press release: Saturday’s meeting is the last before the cut-off for qualification for the end-of-season Shootout for the prestigious silver roof. As such, most of the big names will be in action, headed by this season’s dominator, British Champion 515 Frankie Wainman Jr, who has won two of three finals at Lynn this year. Local superstar 16 Mat Newson will be looking to uphold home honour and make some inroads in the points, particularly the King’s Lynn track championship, which he won last year. Runner-up in the final at the end of May, he will need some big points hauls if he is to have any chance of catching Wainman. New European Champion 4 Dan Johnson is also the current holder of the silver roof so may be looking to demonstrate his 2016 form before this season’s Shootout gets underway. Runner-up in last weekend’s European at Northampton was 445 Nigel Green who was a heat winner last time out at King’s Lynn and looks set qualify for his first Shootout this year. Has he turned the corner after a recent tricky spell, and does he have what it takes to mount a serious challenge for the silver roof. Comfortably in the top six of the points at present, 212 Danny Wainman is another who would love to make the breakthrough of becoming a genuine contender. Further down the table, 150 Mick Sworder should clinch his place in the series this weekend, as he currently occupies tenth spot. One of the sport’s most spectacular drivers, he is chasing his first win at Saddlebow Road in 2016. With 464 Luke Davidson unlikely to race, and 220 Will Hunter not booked to race at present, it opens the door for others to sneak into the top 12 at the last moment. Hoping to take advantage will be 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr. Also in the field this weekend will be multiple World Champion 53 John Lund, rising star 422 Ben Riley and King’s Lynn specialist 335 Mark Woodhull. 224 Mark Gray has been banging in the wins on tarmac in his Tom Harris car recently – can he translate anything like that kind of form onto the loose? Among the remaining runners are lower grade veterans 215 Geoff Nickolls, 280 Colin Nairn and 307 Tim Warwick who are all very popular among sections of the crowd. At the other end of the scale, 76 Aaron Cozens is always a strong performer on his local track, while 127 Austin Moore will look to continue his good progress since graduating from Ministox. There are currently 45 F1 Stock Cars, 33 V8 Stock Car and 44 1300cc Stock Cars booked in to race. Drivers please note that the pits open at 2pm and your early arrival will be appreciated. Drivers turning up in the last hour could well find themselves missing their first race.

When he's raced on shale before it's been in the same car he races on tarmac. I think he's only ever had one or two cars in total. Not sure if it's been the same car with two different paint jobs, or two different cars, but they've always been tarmac cars.

300 has raced shale before, in his own car, so I think he'll be there. Roger said here that he'd race whichever semi he got. Presumably in one of Ryan's cars. There's quite a few tarmac-only drivers on the grid.

Henry Hunter has not raced for a while, and on another thread it was suggested that he had lost interest in racing, so quite possibly he's one that has withdrawn.
