  1. Remember travelling down A1 to a midweek Skegness meeting and came across Ian's transporter broken-down on the hard shoulder near Ferrybridge, we stopped to see what the issue was, we gave a team member a lift to pick up some parts to get the transporter fixed, dropped him back off at the transporter and all got to Skegness for start time Waine
  2. Just looking at Google maps, there appears to be plenty of parking spaces immediately the around site for competitors, if a deal could be done with the local business's for race cars on/around track, with maybe similar practices to Venray where sheets have to be laid down under race cars to protect the tarmac, then also a deal with cinema for spectator parking. Waine
  3. Odsal had a siren which signalled 5 minutes to be on track for next race, often saw cars coming down the ramp after the rolling lap had started. Sometimes they let them down the off track ramp if there was time to join the rolling lap
  4. It probably is a bit misleading, as the statement put out by Arena leisure states they have bought the stadia, however as stated, I believe, certainly in the case of Belle Vue stadium, was not owned by the GRA.

    Odsal Stadium

The sport as a whole, F1 F2, Saloons, bangers, and NHR have a variety of stadia, what we don't have since Coventry, is a well situated large capacity venue which was/could be the focal point of the sport, as Coventry was.

Do you really think you could run a venue like Odsal with 25 crowds of 400 people ??????4,000 people would be a struggle. Reality seems to have deserted this thread, Bryan apart, lol The figure of 400 I mentioned was a calculation of what crowd levels would be needed to cover rent and stadium maintenance costs, yes crowds would need to be significantly higher to factor in other running costs

    Odsal Stadium

The sport needs an iconic stadium to grow, Coventry was that upto when it closed, I believe that this is the perfect opportunity to bring Odsal back with the rugby moving out, the rugby would have always put hurdles in the way to a return.

Plus the likely 250k + to get a track laid then out of revenue comes all start money and prize money then insurance VAT, staff wages......That would be where promoters promote the racing to increase crowd levels which in turn increases money available to cover the other running costs of a meeting/business plus current and future stadia updates required, no one ever said it would be easy or without risk.

£120,000 (split running cost with speedway etc) per year running costs split over 25 events @ an average admission fee of £12 would mean 400 paying customers per event covers rent and running costs.

If it is possible for stock cars to return, hopefully with rugby going would allow shale to be put back down, this would allow speedway back to help offset running costs, then with 8 F1 saturday night meetings each year, including a WF every 5 years, plus a further 10 - 15 domestic meetings a year should be enough to at least break even. 12. Yes, Grindon way is what was F1 pits area. The area behind what would have been back straight is still scrub land. There may still be remnants of stadium around this area which has yet to be redeveloped. Waine
  13. With regards to Aycliffe, the Xcel Conference centre now sits on the area which would have been car park/F2 pits/turns 3 & 4. F1 pits and turns 1 & 2 are now industrial units Waine
  14. Not sure it was the promoter enticing drivers with double points, as the last round has always been double points since shootout was brought in Waine
  15. Living in Newton Aycliffe, it would be great to have an F1 track back on the doorstep. There is still a big following in the North East for F1. Guess any feedback could be gauged at the upcoming night in October at the Brinkburn Pub in Darlington. Waine
