This coming Saturday we play host to an absolute feast of top class Stadium Motorsport. As ever, the National Hot Rods are in town for their annual ‘shake down’ in preparation for their World Championship in an incredible fortnights time, we also have the mighty, all action, and no holds barred Brisca F1 Stock Cars and National Ministox to make for an evening at Foxhall the whole Family simply won’t forget! The mighty Brisca F1 Stock Cars are always a massive hit, literally, when they pay their once yearly visit to Foxhall on a track where they can unleash some of the immense power of their Chevrolet V8 Engines. It’s a World Championship Qualifier and F1 racing on Tarmac is always fast and frantic, Lee Fairhurst, Tom Harris, Dan Johnson, Rob Speak there’s so many quality star Drivers in the Formula right now chasing for that chequered flag. Hopefully, we should also have a visit from the famous Wainman and Harrison Families together also. The mighty Brisca F1 European Championship and Spedeweekend takes place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July at our Northampton International Raceway too and that’s another great weekend to pencil into your Diaries! We have just completed the build of a brand new grandstand for those who are disabled or have special needs on the Kent Cams bend and our renowned catering facilities, which offer some of the best Stadium food in the country, are accredited with a five star Hygiene Rating. Saturday 11th June 1960 Fred Mitchell (38) won the final at Long Eaton. Monday 11th June 1962 Back than, as now, Bank Holiday Monday meant Belle Vue, and Johnny King (6) won the final. Saturday 11th June 1966 The race winners at Harringay were Alan Wardropper, Les Mitchell, Alan England, and Ian Ireland in the heats, and Peter Guinchard in the final. This was the days before SCOTA/Spedeworth... Sunday 11th June 1972 Stu Smith won heat and final, and placed third in the GN at Snetterton. Willie Harrison (2) did slightly better at Aycliffe, winning heat, final, and GN. Saturday 11th June 1977 Dave Taylor (30) won the Notts & Derby Trophy at Long Eaton. Sunday 11th June 1978 Yellow top Sam "Fozzie" Frater won the Consolation at Hartlepool, one of four career race wins, all of which were in 1978. Saturday 11th June 1983 Stu Smith won the final at the World Qualifying round at Blackburn. At Long Eaton the same night, Bert Finnikin won heat, final, and the "Half Crown Dash" - whatever that was! Saturday, 11th June 1988 Pat Northcliffe (336) won the final at Long Eaton, his first and only. Sunday 11th June 1989 A "different" meeting format at Hednesford for the European Championship, with John Lund taking the title and Peter Falding winning the meeting final. Saturday 11th June 1994 The Grand Prix Series round at Long Eaton saw a first ever race win for Dave Willis (337), and a heat and final double for Rob Cowley (73). Sunday 11th June 1995 Neil Long (79) was at the very peak of his F1 career, taking two heats and the final at Northampton. Sunday, 11th June 2000 Consolation and final double for Peter Falding at Buxton's World Qualifier. Saturday 11th June 2005 FWJ won the Scottish Championship at Cowdie. From Trackstar The big talking point about this weekend’s meeting is whether 515 Frankie Wainman Jr can become the first man to win three consecutive finals at King’s Lynn. Given his form to date, you wouldn’t bet against him. If Wainman can pull off this feat and go in the history books he will be rewarded with an enhanced final winners pot of £1000 - will it be a grand in the hand for Frankie on Saturday? The final will also have enhanced poignency with the Mo Jones Memorial being staged - a race in memory of the popular wife of Pit Marshall Gary Jones which was won last year by 150 Mick Sworder! FWJ’s brother 212 Danny Wainman, with his new car, and son 555 Frankie Wainman Jr Jr will also be targeting success, as will 2016 first-time superstar 445 Nigel Green who clearly means business this year. Other than Wainman, race wins last time out (four weeks ago) went to 280 Colin Nairn, 244 Mick Rogers, 127 Austin Moore – who looked very impressive from the white grade – 198 Nigel Whalley and 446 Joe Booth. All except Moore and Whalley had confirmed their bookings at the time of writing and will be hoping for repeat performances – or better! – this weekend.
