  11. Press release from BSCDA IT'S BLAST OFF AT BIRMINGHAM AND HEDNESFORD FOR A BUMPER BRISCA F1 WEEKEND OF TARMAC RACING The first Tarmac meetings of the BriSCA F1 season take place this weekend at Birmingham Wheels on Saturday night, followed by Hednesford Hills Raceway on Sunday afternoon. After a two-week gap in the fixture list due to the demise of Coventry Stadium, the drivers have reacted by coming out in force this weekend, with 57 cars booked in to race at Birmingham and 49 at Hednesford. A number of top-line drivers are making their first appearances of the season, including former World champion Lee Fairhurst, former National Points Shootout champion Ryan Harrison and former European champion Luke Davidson. Other notable entries include Neil Scriven, who won the final at Hednesford meeting a year ago, Bradley Harrison, who is driving his father Paul’s Tarmac car this season, and the oldest final winner in the sport, Rob Cowley, who took victory at Birmingham in October 2015. Two drivers many will be keeping a close eye on, however, is Mick Sworder and Todd Jones. The clash between the two star men was the highlight of the final Wimbledon meeting last month, with Sworder on the receiving end of the Jones front bumper in the final. Sworder, who won the final at King’s Lynn two weeks ago, has suffered a major blow to his season and has been forced to focus more on Tarmac racing after a blown engine in his shale car during the Grand National at the Adrian Flux Arena. “I’m trying to get something sorted, but I haven’t got the finances to do it,” said Sworder. “People think I’m rolling in money, but I’m not. I race what I can afford and when an engine goes bang it’s £16-18,000 and I don’t have that spare just to repair it. “I’ll probably just be racing Tarmac this year now, probably Birmingham and Northampton meetings and a few others. That is all I should do.” While other drivers have swapped engines over from one car to another, Sworder doesn’t see that as a possibility. “I won’t be swapping the engine over like Stuart Smith Jnr did a couple of years ago,” he said. “I’m not that keen! And also the exhaust wouldn’t fit if I tried to put the engine from the Tarmac car into the shale car. “It would mean making a new exhaust made up so it’s just another load of expense again to go racing. I don’t really want it.” Possible favourite to take the spoils at Birmingham is last year’s final winner at the meeting, Dan Johnson, who won the European title last year and came close to taking both the World and National Points Shootout titles. “I like racing at Birmingham. It’s always good racing there,” he said. Johnson is using both the cars he used last year, but will not be racing at Hednesford due to work commitments. As a result the Worksop driver has had to pick and choose meetings to race at to fit around work. “We’re that busy,” said Johnson. “My dad has just built a new farm and my sister is having her wedding reception there this year so it’s all hands on deck getting the place finished, and also we have just bought a new yard in Doncaster that we need to get prepared. We have that much on at the moment, it is unbelievable. “Everything has happened at once. We’re also trying to sell the house I live in to buy a new one, so we are trying to get that one tidied up and ready, so every free minute is taken up, plus all our normal work as well.”

  15. Press release from Incarace: THE THUNDEROUS roar of BriSCA F1 Stock Car racing returns to Hednesford Hills Raceway for the only time in 2017 on Sunday 9th April for the second leg of a tarmac weekend double header. This is the one chance this year for Stock Car fans to experience the ground-shaking roar of the 600bhp Chevrolet V8s around their fastest and scariest UK venue, and the V8 rumble will reverberate across Cannock Chase all afternoon, the stars of the sport chasing World Championship qualifying points ahead of the big race at Ipswich in September. It’s a great pity that these superb cars and indeed their fantastic pilots only visit the venue once each year and without doubt an even bigger pity that ‘The Hills’ are unable to play host to the World Championship itself, due to parking logistics which have changed dramatically since Rob Speak took the crown here in 2001, heading current World Champion Frankie Wainman Jnr and Andrew Smith. Robert has now taken over the promoting reigns at Skegness, whilst Andrew retired a few years ago, but will be here today supporting younger daughter Rebecca in the National Ministox which carries the famous 391 number. So, it will be over to Frankie to fly the flag of the 2001 podium and he will be looking for good World qualifying points today to better his indifferent start to that all-important Semi-Final grid position. There will be immense competition from numerous drivers for the chequered flag today with possible scores to settle from the previous night’s racing at Birmingham. Last year was an emotional time for Nigel Harrhy (45) who took the Final as an extremely popular winner, only to be denied in post-race scrutineering which highlighted a measurement problem, following extensive repairs from the previous night. This pushed Nigel to the brink of retirement, but he is back today for another stab and there will be many supporters hoping that he will be the victor again today. The record books record Michael Scriven (12) as the winner and Michael himself will be looking for back to back final wins at the Hednesford bowl. This is an afternoon of pure Stock Car racing not to miss – why not make a weekend of it with Birmingham Wheels the night before? 1 Frankie Wainman Jnr 3 Chris Fort 11 Neil Scriven 12 Michael Scriven 13 Kelvin Hassell 14 Roger Bromiley 16 Matt Newson 25 Bradley Harrison 36 Jordan Falding 45 Nigel Harrhy 48 Shaun Webster 55 Craig Finnikin 70 Aaron Leach 83 Darren Clark 84 Tom Harris 101 Tristan Jackson 103 Richard Masterson 135 James Bailey 150 Mick Sworder 152 Neil Scothern 183 Steve Whittle 186 Todd Jones 195 Dean Whitwell 197 Ryan Harrison 207 Ben Hurdman 212 Danny Wainman 217 Lee Fairhurst 220 William Hunter 268 Richard Woods 283 Alex Wass 284 Samuel Wass 287 Sean Willis 300 Paul Carter 301 Mark Allen 372 Colin Goodswen 390 Stuart Smith 422 Ben Riley 443 Richard Dickerson 445 Nigel Green 455 Matt Armstrong 460 Chris Cooke 464 Luke Davidson 468 Danny Oliver 501 George Elwell 512 Michael Steward 518 Stuart Sheville Jnr 543 Drew Lammas 555 Frankie Wainman Jnr Jnr 556 Stuart Moulds
  16. The addition of 3 Chris Fort takes it to 49 cars booked in for for Sunday. Apart from World Final meetings, the biggest turnout at Hednesford was 67 cars at the World Qualifying round in May 1988. The big re-opening meeting in March 1988 had 61 cars.
  17. One or two changes but still 48 cars as of this morning. 1 Frankie Wainman Jnr 11 Neil Scriven 12 Michael Scriven 13 Kelvin Hassell 14 Roger Bromiley 16 Mat Newson 25 Bradley Harrison 36 Jordan Falding 45 Nigel Harrhy 48 Shaun Webster 55 Craig Finnikin 70 Aaron Leach 83 Darren Clark 84 Tom Harris 101 Tristan Jackson 103 Richard Masterson 135 James Bailey 150 Mick Sworder 152 Neil Scothern 183 Steve Whittle 186 Todd Jones 195 Dean Whitwell 197 Ryan Harrison 207 Ben Hurdman 212 Danny Wainman 217 Lee Fairhurst 220 William Hunter 268 Richard Woods 283 Alex Wass 284 Sam Wass 287 Sean Willis 300 Paul Carter 301 Mark Allen 372 Colin Goodswen 390 Stuart Smith 422 Ben Riley 443 Richard Dickerson 445 Nigel Green 455 Matthew Armstrong 460 Chris Cooke 464 Luke Davidson 468 Danny Colliver 501 George Elwell 512 Michael Steward 518 Stuart Shevill Jnr 543 Drew Lammas 555 Frankie Wainman Jnr Jnr 556 Stuart Moulds
  18. Press release from Incarace All roads this Saturday will lead to Birmingham Wheels Raceway with the first leg of the two day BriSCA Weekend of racing which sees both the F1’s and F2’s in 2017 World qualifying action and the National Ministox in their own qualifying for the unique Sheep Farm Services Trophy sponsored by Les Spencer. The BriSCA F1’s will be looking to be the stars of the show, especially as this is the first tarmac meeting of the season and with only a couple of shale meetings so far there will be a few drivers out for the first time this year. The Gala night way back in November last year saw a fair few new drivers and tonight is similar really with quite a few novices taking to the track for the first time we welcome those new drivers and wish them the very best. There are also a few shale drivers on the booking list, which will probably be the norm this year with Coventry Stadium no longer able to offer dates. I guess it will be the ‘big boys’ looking for success tonight though trying to affirm their qualification for the 2017 World Final, which takes place at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich. Dan Johnson leads the World Qualfiying chart which started of course last year, with local bred Nigel Green (445) a close 2nd and it is Nigel that is leading the 2017 points chart after Kings Lynn. Current World and British Champion Frankie Wainman Jnr (1) has a liking for the Wheels track and will hoping to be able to move up the qualifying chart this weekend. With nigh on 60 cars booked, we can be guaranteed some great action, but lets hope they leave some for the next day at Hednesford! 1 Frankie Wainman Jnr 4 Daniel Johnson 11 Neil Scriven 12 Michael Scriven 13 Kelvin Hassell 14 Roger Bromiley 16 Matt Newson 25 Bradley Harrison 36 Jordan Falding 45 Nigel Harrhy 48 Shaun Webster 55 Craig Finnikin 70 Aaron Leach 73 Rob Cowley 84 Tom Harris 101 Tristan Jackson 103 Richard Masterson 115 Craig McLoughlin 135 James Bailey 147 Edward Collins 150 Mick Sworder 152 Neil Scothern 172 Michael Randell 183 Steve Whittle 186 Todd Jones 195 Dean Whitwell 197 Ryan Harrison 207 Ben Hurdman 212 Danny Wainman 217 Lee Fairhurst 220 William Hunter 238 Richard Bryan 259 Paul Hines 268 Richard Woods 278 Paul Hopkins 283 Alex Wass 284 Samuel Wass 287 Sean Willis 300 Paul Carter 303 Mick Whiteman 308 Steve Malkin Jnr 321 Ed Neachell 322 James Neachell 325 Richard Davies 372 Colin Goodswen 390 Stuart Smith 422 Ben Riley 443 Richard Dickerson 445 Nigel Green 455 Matt Armstrong 460 Chris Cooke 464 Luke Davidson 512 Michael Steward 518 Stuart Sheville Jnr 543 Drew Lammas 545 Neil Hooper 555 Frankie Wainman Jnr Jnr

  20. The Harrison team out for a practise at Northampton today, ready for the weekend.
  21. Maybe a full weekend away from home just isn't practical for him? There's no camping at either track so where does everyone go in between Birmingham and Hednesford?
  22. But just in case Paul fancies a run on tarmac....
