People have too much time on their hands, why don't you all chill and watch Bathurst,The Great Race. It's about to start. Some F1 boys would look good on the grid, plenty wild cards, a couple of Indy boys taking part this year.

When Stock Cars came to Rochdale in 1970, i was a schoolboy and went to every Rochdale meeting with me mates, on the bus, paying my 3d entry (ask your Mum n Dad !) , or however much it was .

For whatever reason, i chose my local driver Doug Cronshaw to support, rather than Smithy. Loved his broadsliding style.

In 1971, i was travelling to many more tracks every week. Nelson, Belle Vue, Aycliffe etc, and now paying in New Pence !

Like others have said, i remember going to my very 1st World Final at Coventry 1971, like it was yesterday.

The World Final was the 2nd best race i've ever seen.

Not sure if it was in the following month's Coventry programme, or Stock Car magazine , but the article referred to the World Final and said that Doug Cronshaw must have been able to hear the noise of the crowd during his entire final lap.

And that's what i remember more than anything. Moments of crowd euphoria like that, are very few and far between.

48 years ago, and i can still relive the Harrison /Esau incident in my head, and the madness that followed. An entire lap of audience participation like no other.

Also remember , as a member of his fan club, going to his Xmas "do" at Rochdale Town Hall , around Christmastime .

Where have all those years gone ? !

Bloomin' Brilliant

Amazing, must be my doppelganger, except I come from Wigan.

Still get that same feeling whenever I see one of his cars, especially "The Potent Mix". Used to have that black and white photo as my background for years but managed to lose it.
