Nice to see an almost full Wainman turnout at this meeting, bar Danny, but including Karl 😶
Surely, if Karl & Phoebe get wed, he'll have to change his surname to Wainman ?
As has been said, it's great to see Charlie Sworder on the list, driving the new Smithy car (i hope) into it's first battle. I'll avoid making a prediction, for obvious reasons.

Good ole Rochdale in it's last year running Brisca F1
Meanwhile, the same day, Stu Smith & co attended a WCQR at Northampton, where Dave Mellor won the final.
The previous night at the old Belle Vue , which i attended, Nigel Whorton won Heat & Final double, plus 6th in GN.I was a bit of a Whorton fan at that time.

Was Rob in a hurry ? He certainly rattled through this interview like he was on a mission.
A lesson to be learned about Driver / Fan stereotyping. Jonathan appeared shocked about one aspect of Rob's life.

Thanks again for taking the time to interview these iconic drivers . The Panda eyes, i spotted straight away !
I agree with Neil Fry about some drivers who , with time, attain this 6th sense, and take their driving to a level that is really off the scale.
Stuart (391) Chissy (252) & Lundy (53) are the three that went even beyond that . Tom i think is on the verge of joining those three , for me at least.
Stuart Smith Jnr , along with several great names , including his brother , reached a certain level where they do just naturally know how to avoid a catastrophe.
Funny how Stuart doesn't remember his Dad actually being a driver , but more of this drinking man in the Bar after a meeting.Looking forward to Part 2. Shame that i can't look forward to more of Stuart's unique style of racing . Perhaps in a Veteran's race one day 🙏

Yes Linky, there was plenty to admire in this, and all Whorton cars. I like to see an immaculately presented car. The current 197 tar car is a work of art for instance.
I also liked this 501 NZ type car, which went much better on shale. Notably at Coventry.
But the 501 tar car debuted at the World Final 1988 was something else. I voted it my favourite car of all time in a thread some time ago.
It was 3rd in the World Final '88, and 2nd in the meeting Final. For sheer 'looks' , it would still outshine most of today's fine looking F1's.Whilst I'm reminiscing. That WF weekend at Hedno in 1988 remains the best weekender ever for me. 9 F1 races Saturday, and 8 on Sunday. ................. Epic.
Finally, Anyone know - Is the car drove by Doug Cronshaw at this meeting, the same one that won the Aycliffe September meeting, same year ?

I have to disagree about the Whorton Red Arrow (i actually thought of them all as Red Arrows, Mk 1 ,Mk 2 etc)I was a big admirer of Whorton cars (usually Lintern built ?) , but this one i thought was plain ugly !
Not only that. It was a bit of a beast for Nigel to control, and was extremely unstable when hit from the rear , as happens from time to time .His best car for me was the one that he won the '86 British, and should have won the '86 World Final 😋

The amount of time & energy that goes into getting a car on track, is amazing. Love hearing Driver's stories about this.I took a picture of Ian with the Big Hands on his parade lap at Baarlo. To think he traded the hands in for "refreshments" .

It was Pete Falding that made the retaliation move on Lundy, accompanied by a roar from the crowd.
Big John had pushed Pete into the same car, two laps earlier, whilst Falding was leading. Terrific Final.

Absolutely crackin' interview.
I particularly liked Pete's recollections of Baarlo, as i saw him win those races.
I remember doing my own calculation of the average speed of a Baarlo lap, and coming up with 96.7 mph average.
Pete in this interview mentions around 99 mph, with top speeds around 120. The thrill of driving those speeds on a packed oval must have been immense.And he chooses the same top 3 best drivers of all time as me. Top man
