beaks Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) Before I start my post - please be aware that it is meant to be constructive and not a criticism... I honestly think the days of putting 'sponsor required', 'sponsor wanted' etc etc on the side of a car and expecting a blue chip company to come in and say 'hell yeah, i'll have some of that... will £10k and a couple of big blocks be ok?' is long gone... if it ever existed... and some might say a touch on the cheeky side... In this day and age, most companies will want at the very least some kind of presentation package, in the form of a booklet or even going into a company and doing a proper 'presentation' Making it totally clear what a potential sponsor would get for his / her money, benefits to their company, taxation issues, promotional events that can be offered etc etc are essential to be taken seriously. If you're looking at the every day fan, which in stock car racing is very common... letting people know, say, for £200 you get a small logo on the car... for £1000 you get the centre of the wing... for £2,500 you get both sides... is essential... I'd say i've got a pretty good idea of costs in f1 and f2 stock car racing... but think about the people that don't. They may want to buy a tyre but have no idea how much it costs... pay for a meetings worth of diesel... or perhaps think that offering just £100 will not be appreciated... You get my drift... People are often very guarded on how much money changes hands... and for sure it is private... but if you want cash... you'll just have to bite the bullet and get it done... Over the years I have done some of the above packages for drivers in F2 and National Hot Rods (and gained sponsorship!!)... so i do know what i'm going on about (on this occasion)... i'm really not trying to run peoples efforts down... i'm simply using my experience and knowledge to help my stock car brothers out... I could go on... but i'd bore myself and you lot... but I hope those who have read this understand where i'm coming from. I wish the new driver that Juz is helping out all the best... but if you want more cash... more effort needs to be made i'm afraid. Cheers, Beaks Edited July 28, 2010 by beaks
Mike Ashcroft Posted July 28, 2010 Good reply Beaks, I did this for an F1 team a few years ago and had some success. Also went into a paint manufacturer (OK I offered them some reciprocal business too) and did a full on personal presentaion (nerve racking 'twas!) and ended up with a paint supply deal. Basically covered material costs so far for several F1's, minis and the odd 2. These days a pretty a respectable portfolio can be put together for not a lot of cash using glossy paper, a decent home printer and folders from Staples etc... Think the ones I produced stood me at less than a fiver a shot (about 20 pages of photo's and guff) so well worth the investment if only you get 1 or 2 yes's !!
juz65 Author Posted July 28, 2010 yeah i understand what ya getting at beaks but my post is mainly for interested people and i will introduce them to the guy so details and everything can be discussed. i have got offers off a couple of people with tyres who have done this before (cheers guys) and know what tyres cost and they will be chatting to him before anything changes hands. i once handed over about £350 cash to someone never to see anything on a car or more than a handfull of races thats why im introducing them at buxton this weekend (hopefully) so they can sort stuff out between them and if seems a decent deal. i will be putting some funds up for him too as every little helps, you are going to buxton mike aint ya lol. cheers juz

Is that the 251 car that was practicing at Buxton the other week?
Ironmac288 Posted July 28, 2010 looks at lot like the old 285 tar car the purple 1 could be wrong tho
Colin C Posted July 28, 2010 Most sponsorship in Stock cars comes from people involved in the sport, and often comes in the way of products, services or buying a few tyres, I don't think there is much cash on offer. Most of the time it comes from friends, fans and business' of the driver involved. To attract "Non" stock car sponsors is a difficult thing. In order to get a sponsor you have to offer them something in return, and the benefits of sponsoring a car. A company is not going to put there name on a car for the fun of it, they need to know how it will benefit them. We often get sponsorship proposals from anything from Football Clubs, Cricket clubs, Car shows and a host of other activities. All the proposals offer us a range of incentives from free tickets, places to sell our product and of course where our name will be advertised. Juz65, best of luck with the sponsorship search, getting the car out on track in front of fans and potential sponsors will also help.
