Now thats a pic of what Giant would no doubt call " proper stock car racing" but not so much as an ounce of that dirty brown slurry in sight.

BTW 97WF, help me out, is that the one where FWJ leads 53 by miles when his engine goes sick, or the one where FWJ leads by miles and a backmarker leaps out of the home straight plating

I can see extreme ‘social distancing’ measures being introduced at future meetings being the norm after blasphemous comments such as this😀

  2. All the best commentators have a ‘snifter’ surely...didn’t James Hunt get through two bottles of red wine on his first commentary duties with Murray Walker.

I was very disappointed with Sarge to be honest drinking while on a live feed....drinking from a bottle AND Budweiser, I wouldn’t even use it to put out a fire, let alone drink the stuff. Come on Sarge, G&T next time or at least Guinness or a real ale...😆

  3. Its an interesting one but this decade has probably seen more `open ` racing at the top for a long, long time in the sport, no one driver has really dominated throughout the period as the case perhaps in the past - Stuart senior, Lundy, Frankie and then Andy prior to his retirement.

I do think, although there are moans and gripes with the fans (there always is and always will be) that this decade has really been the most entertaining and closest at the top that we have seen for an age and I really do hope it continues.

Having said that I do agree that the 318 Speaky period really upped it completely, as Dave says its almost as though the bumpers, big hits and entertainment came back with a bang....it was borderline mental for a period, I still think it is tbh but we do appear to be `perhaps` entering another period of dominance with Tom .

I honestly think we will look back at this decade as almost the `golden age`...I just hope it continues :bigthumb: .

But for me on pure putting it back to `bums on seats` racing its got to be Speaky.

  4. If you look at the promotions website it clearly states 3.30pm.

No offence meant Bryan but over the past few years there has been that many times that meetings have started early or confusion over what actually constitutes official start times, ie F1, F2, Ministox, heritage, pre-meeting nudge and spin 50cc shopping trolleys etc that funnily enough even hardened fans like me that back the promoters corner a lot of the time have little faith in what is an actual start time.

For once it can`t be blamed on us, its been self inflicted by the sport itself that has led to an awful lot doubting any official start time.

I will add that it has improved a lot over the last couple of years but at one time it was a joke.

    Cheers

Totally agree with your observation. It's still early doors, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the number nearer to 50 by weekend.

Looks like Dan has gone into hibernation for this year, which is a pity, as he goes well at Stoke.

    A bit of factual information.

Of the 39 cars that raced at the first meeting, 14 of them are not currently booked in to race this Saturday. And we have 16 drivers booked in or this Saturday that did not race at the first meeting. And 25 at both meetings.

Do you like films about Gladiators ? :chortle:

I may have vada`d one or two of them ducky..

I think the numbers are about what you would expect. Stoke is normally about 35-45 cars, quite good numbers normally and not far off a Kings Lynn meeting. I mean its Stoke at the end of the day, its not the closing of Coventry, the old Belle Vue or dare I say the place at the end of the M606 somewhere ooop North. :D .

Its surprised me from the start the numbers that have gone since 2011 - the initial track was akin to a roller coaster ride, the fence is old style soft motorway armco with `Oles` in it which meant often than not instead of bouncing off the car hooked in and stopped dead and the track lighting, particulary on the bends and back straight was borderline dangerous **

Brilliant racing though and will be very sad to see it go.

    Cheers

    Sandy.

** - oh I forgot the new clarification rules to prevent misunderstanding :innocent: ............"the promoter rents and does not own the track"
