  1. Me neither.. I'll leave ipswich heading home to brum but not before i have applauded the gn winner.

    #get ya moneysworth..

Yes me too Richard , Its still a 3 hr trip home to Brum but with that superb driver turnout and a few Dutch drivers as well it will be worth it. I'm looking forward to it !

  2. So now we have a post moaning that there is too many races. Startrax at Belle Vue with 4 formulas is usually quicker than most venues where there are only 2 formulas.

If you don't like it don't go and obviously do you not think the post is pretty pathetic especially after events in Manchester. It should be all about solidarity and expressing that the great British public will not be terrorised, not moan that there are a couple of races too many.

(Added) looks like the post has been deleted.

Good grief bm7921, can't anyone express an opinion without you saying that they are moaning. Harry G was simply saying that like me and many others that 17 races is far too many and will inevitable take at least 4hrs that is also far too long. I will still actually be going because my usual "moan " as you call an opinion bm7921 was that 20odd cars is not enough , but low and behold we now have 36 or so which is better. However I'll save at least an hour and will leave after the F! Final as the M6 southbound on a Bank Holiday is murder.

  3. Dick Zimmerman was a former CRA sprint car champion, a good friend of harry van der Spuij, Zimmerma went to live in South Africa, where he sadly died after a road crash.

Wasn't Harry van der Spuij the first ever "foreigner" to win a Final when he won the Trophy at Harringay London ?

  4. Only 22 in F1gp, does that diminish the champion?

Yes, I have taken people racing and they just didn't like it. Not everyone has the same tastes... I just hope your friends don't go circuit racing or to Santa pod where a 4 hour meeting would be a short one! However, I do agree that people do have an attention span and anything over that does cause people to loose interest. The NFL ( American Football) Has spent a lot of time and money into research on the optimum attention span of fans, and Dick Bergrenn did a great article in the USA stock car magazine about racing and how to keep fans attention. I am going to have to find that, and make it a separate thread!

Like I say, we can't all like the same thing, I still love Stock cars, i have tried other sports, pastimes, but always come back to stock cars.. Nothing else like it :-)

That would make a good separate thread. ! Didn't Dick Bergrenn race over here at White City ?

  5. I can't see what difference car numbers or formula would have on a first time visitor to a stock car meeting? You wouldn't know what formula you like before going? And if you have never seen a 60 car meeting, how would you know the difference?

Because the family said that 23 cars "all out" in every race was boring and because "all you have to do to win a big prize and a Trophy was to make sure your car was running ! ! " "There is no kudos in that ! " There were only 16 bangers as well at that meeting, and that rapidly dropped in numbers every race. I tried to explain that there are probably about 60 F1 drivers currently racing but 35 to 40 would be great to see as there would be a variety of drivers and the eventual Trophy Winner would have to genuinely qualify to win it. Anyway they said the 4hr meeting was boring and won't be going again ! Sad.

  6.

And they still can't get past the 30 car mark either ! Is it the fence ? Is it the muddy pits ?

Nothing like being positive, is there...

Carl H, I am very positive but what is the problem with asking a straightforward question why BV don't get the F1 car numbers ? Over many years we have introduced many friends, family and workmates to F1 Stock Cars, but I had no answers to the first time family I took to the last BV meeting that bored them to bits with too many formulas and not enough F1 cars that we all went to see after a long drive up the M6. This week it looks slightly better with 30 cars but with bangers and bangers+caravans it looks like another 4hr plus meeting that will not beat the last Birmingham meet of 50odd cars in just 3 1/2hrs.

Many Thanks for your constant updates which are appreciated, but I was only asking a valid question.

  7. Looks set for an entertaining afternoon at Owlerton.

It's brutal and unforgiving that's for sure.

30 odd cars will be more than adequate.

    Good luck to all concerned.

Heading up from Cornwall for my first F1 dose of the season.

That's pending the overnight road closures here in Kernow.

Already packed my camera and got the burger money ready.

    Should be good!

Thats just brilliant support Udwi krugg ,all the way from Cornwall. ! We used to do Pennycross Stadium Plymouth, Newton Abbot and I think St Austell, but made a week of it. My favourite was Johnny Marquand of Starcross. ! YES 30 odd cars looks pretty good at Sheffield, hope it gets to the top 30's.

  8. Why advertise a meeting to start at 4pm when the first race (Ministox) is at 3.30pm? I would have thought most spectators would want to watch everything and get their moneysworth?? It's as if the Ministox "don't matter", but they are, perhaps, the F1 stox drivers of the future.

Not quite right Ged, some of us time it to get in just before the F1's because we don't like the ministox and also because its always an endurance event at Belle Vue often going to 9:00 pm after a 4;00pm start. But my point today is also to say just how sad it is to see that yet again BV just can't get the F1 numbers with hardly any more than the mid winter Christmas meeting, And unfortunately there will almost certainly be non starters due to damage at Skegness and Stoke. It'll still be worth the long drive but I hope for an early finish as I'm on "earlies" on Tues !

  9. I was having a little trouble getting back with it this season but names like Tony n josh Smith,Geoff nikols and Billy Johnson are doing wonders for my enthusiasm. Along with all the big names of course..

Does the lack of an H Infront of Sierd de Vries number suggest that he is english registered for this season??

Anyone who has not seen him throw his car around is in for a treat...

YES I agree Richard M. Sierd de Vries is a great driver he lit up BV at Christmas. Wish he could have been there last week ! Good to see a decent turnout too with just the 2 formulas

  10. Really looking forward to this.

Coventry may be gone, Bradford may just be a fantasy, but stock car racing is still magic.

.Not really hatman , Coventry nearly always topped 60 cars, Bradford was way up there too with 3 heat meetings , so a 26 car two thirds meeting format does not entice me I'm afraid. The "cracker" at Christmas was only enlightened a bit, by a tremendous effort by a first time Dutch entrant. To be honest after a winter break 26 cars is a poor effort by the F1 drivers. Good on the F2 lads though !

  11. The car count is currently in the high 70s and includes 4 Dutch drivers.

Brilliant car turnout. Will be there, and I must admit that I missed the superb sounding meeting last week at BV for a rubbish local football derby in Birmingham. Or as Captain Bertolli used to say in "allo allo" Wot a mistaka to maka !

  12. Pit gate opens 2.30pm.

Thanks Bart, What are the names of the first 3 in the Final on Sunday ?

  14. Tarmac racing in Holland appears to have been on the decline the last few years, as the dirt/shale/field tracks have got more popular. There's also a massive meeting at Texel in Holland this weekend. Over 80 F1s booked the last time I looked, including four Brits!

Amazing to see 2 Dutch drivers over here and 4 Brits over there on the same week-end. Hope they can arrange the big meetings to be on different dates next year. By the way who are the 4 Brits in Holland ?
