On THIS day in history (12th June) in 1955 there was the first of only 2 meetings ever run at Connington (the other was a month later on 17th July). Both meeting finals were won by Percy Betts. This is a new track to me, never heard of it before, and even the defunct tracks website doesn't mention it.......I don't even know where it was .....Connington airfield perhaps? Can anyone shed any further light on this track?
Neil
Conington is in Cambridgeshire near St Ives, as it is only about ten miles from me a couple of weeks ago i took a drive there to see if i could find anybody to shed any light on it but too no avail. But having said that it was in the morning and it is only a small community and quite deserted, so i will most likely try again when the pub is open and see what comes up. The one with the airfield is another conington which is about two miles from me.

Going back to the so called good old days, at the old Belle Vue you had no idea who was booked in there until the cars came onto the track, not being allowed in the pits you just had to wait and see. Never really a problem......

Went to the very first F1 meeting there, brand new stadium and for that reason seemed to lack atmosphere just use to the old stadiums I suppose. Dick Sworder won the final.
