I'll open this now, and add my own thoughts later. Far too many to choose from for Driver Of The Day.

I will say that it was a great way to start the new season. smile-nod.gif

D of D 502
R/R 7

Great to be back for another season, racing was good considering number of cars. Have to say the GN was the best race of the day, 55,4 and 321(????? I think), all having a very good battle with 4 winning

Roll on Easter Monday

Driver of the day was 502, battled away with the reds all day. My Little lad gives the meeting 10/10, cos the F1 season is back!! thumbsup.gif

My real racing racing is 8/10, a good start considering low car numbers and notable absentees. Did anyone else notice Danny Wainman get the tractor stuck in the centre mud when trying to push big brother, that required a man-sized tractor to come to the rescue laugh.gif

For me it was Dan Johnson, for that superb pass around the outside of Frank and Craig Finnikin and then went on to win the race.

Great meeting from the f1 f2 and bangers.
Plenty to watch, and lots of bumperwork quite reasonable opening meet turnout 24 cars.
Quite a few candidates for dotd 16,55,4,502, entertaining 457 come to mind.
Shame the track started to break up on the corners, it was perfect until half way through.

Dotd 502, very unlucky to lose a good final place on the last corner.
Meeting 9/10

DOTD - 502

Taken from Rigger Man's post on the '2010' thread - lets have some positivity! In a couple of days time we'll hopefully be posting about a great season's opener that no doubt involved last lap drama's, a driver's cruel misfortune, some smartly turned out cars and a fencing or two! All roads lead to Belle Vue....

Apart from the lack of last benders, Mystic Chris was about right. Some great battles, new cars to look at (and to watch racing. I'd rather watch them racing instead of looking pretty in the pits), 191's gutsy but two short lived heats, and a fencing a la days of yore with more of the car sticking through the fence than on the track.

Helped a new spectator out with a few things, weather was great for the time of year, and even what music I could hear didn't have me reaching for the mp3 player.

I even got chatting to one of the security stewards. Gone are the MIB! It doesn't get much better than this.

I might stick some sort of video on at some point, not to show those who chose to stay away what they missed, but to show why they should have gone...

Either I was at a different meeting, or everyone has their new seasons rose tinted's on laugh.gif
It was an average meeting for me - could have been a lot worse, but with the car numbers as they were, time of year etc was OK. Pretty much what I expected. Not dissapointed, but not buzzing for more either. I personally preferred the 'grassy knoll' on turn 2 than the 'rooty mud' but Im sure it will grass over......anyway this is racing rating not stadium, so...

LMAO Rich! But how come I only ever win a tenner on the lottery then? laugh.gif

Well that meeting was just the ticket to dust off the winter cobwebs – trying telling the drivers and fans there today that 'the season starts at Cov' etc etc!

I thought the racing was very 'watchable' throughout the day and culminated in a very good GN that had a great battle between 4, 55, 321 etc. It just goes to show that a little too much emphasis can be put on booking lists these days – as several of the better meetings last year were also ones that on paper looked relatively 'mundane.'

Initially today it looked liked season 2009 hadn't ended – with bad luck hitting both 16 and 515. Fortunately 16 got rewarded for his journey though when he raced off to a comfortable final win, only to then be struck by gremlins again in the GN when he looked at one point as though a first place was on the cards from the lap handicap.

DOTD though is a 502 – not necessarily for his heat win but rather the way he battled with the reds and didn't give up his place without a fight.

Normally I'd probably say something along the lines of five hours is too long to run a meeting (and Steve did acknowledge in his programme notes that there was probably one formula too many today), but hey it's the first meeting of the season and it beats getting dragged round the shops or doing DIY doesn't it – therefore rather than a 6 I'll go for a 7/10.

Also it was nice to hear the PA on turn 2, though think I agree with Speedy about the banking. Hope the track doesn't prove to be a consistent problem this season – it will be difficult to completely cure the holes on each bend and the trench going into turn 1 with the next F1 meeting just two weeks away.

Any hoo, it's the Big League and it's back. Bring it on! thumbsup.gif

Regards,

Mystic Chris (aka Riggerman!) tongue.gif .
