A perfect track, perfect weather and 70 stockcars where the ingredients needed for a perfect afternoons racing.

The heats prior to the final at first started with some safe racing, but as the chances to score points for the final ticked away the racing got more robust.
Numerous roll overs....near track blockages, loads of damage and some disappointments to swallow for some of the drivers. Jan van der Iest the defending titleholder being one of them, but being the reigning champ got seeded onto the grid.

During the title race you needed 6 pairs of eyes again. Axel Nijs (32), Sandor Mantje (535) and Wierd Gietema (76) Shared the front row.
Axel flew away from a start without problems, with the Mantje managing to hold on for second until a flat intervened. A fast Ouwe Bijlsma (3) was the next challenger with Fred Hink (35) coming nearer with every lap. Two yellows were needed for on track incidents/ hairy situations. Axel managed to keep his cool finishing in first position, after a superb drive; holding off a determined challenge of Hink on the last turn, who had managed to wrest 2nd from Bijlsma. Like last years finish it was a 1-2-3 within a second. What a superb race!!

Congratulations to Axel; new Dutch Open Champion, and thanks to all the drivers (in all classes!!) that made this day unforgettable!! A true icon to stockcar racing history!! thumbsup.gif

A fantastic day's racing and well worth the 1000 mile round trip. More roll overs in one meeting than a whole season in the UK! This meeting more than made up for the loss of this year's Venray. I'd recommend drivers and spectators give it a go. Don't be put of by thoughts of a bumpy track. Last year's surface was certainly "uneven" but this year the rack was realy smooth.

Well done to Axel for a great win.
